There are some things, certain news, that stops you in your tracks. I am truly sadden! There are some things in this life that make an impressions that last a life time. In the turbulent 60's, an era in need of Black pride and images that boosted self esteem and pride that was in such short supply. I saw something that was magnificent! When I walked up the steps of the community center on Sharp Street, to see Black people in Black Gi's and Master Hawkins in his Red Gi's strong in their art, it was over whelming. To watch and practice with; Glen, Michael, Wayne, Arnold, Ernest, Sugar Bear, Mike Stetson, Gavin Johnson, Master white belt and be an Avenger, changed my life and every ass whipping, was worth what I learned and perfected. Years later, I called Master Hawkins just to say thank You! He didn't remember who I was, but he was touched and appreciated the call. He was a blessing to many! He will be missed, but his legacy is eternal!! Peace be upon Master Hawkins!

To Betty and the Hawkins family.......“I cannot imagine the pain and heartache you’re feeling. I am praying for your peace and comfort.”
Riley gave so much of himself to the community, which will last for all the days ahead.
