Our deepest condolences to you and your family. This is difficult for us and we cannot even begin to imagine what it must be like for you. Merle was the joybringer, the life of the party!!! We are thankful for the numerous opportunities we had to be in her presence. Pictures capturing multiple occasions spent together are treasured memories. Listening to Merle share the gift of her beautiful voice was the highlight of any gathering. It was also a joy to reminisce about our experiences at Charles Hamilton Houston Junior High and Douglas Senior High Schools. Please know, "Grief never ends, but it changes. It's a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith. It is simply the price of LOVE!"

Ralph and I were so saddened by the news of Merle's passing. She was a beautiful lady with a beautiful voice and a smile that would light up the room. One of my special joys was seeing her at my sister's house when I visited Maryland...such fun...my mother loved her.One moment I will never forget was when she sang for us at a family home going service and helped to heal all our broken hearts with her sweet voice...she was a one of a kind amazing lady and may she rest in peace. My condolences to the family.

Bert and I were saddened to hear of Merle’s passing and want to send our condolences out to John, Leslie, Bryan and Justin. She was like a sister to me and for many years we talked every day. She was a special lady..my own Patti Labell. I danced in her shadow and we had a lot of fun together. She was always the life of the party and she never got tired of talking about her children. I will miss my girl, Merle but she’s at peace and serenading the other angels in Heaven. Thank you John for inviting me into your family when we first met at Social Security and introducing me to Merle. She enriched my life in many ways and was a special friend. I loved her spirit …

My prayers and condolences go out to our entire family. I've known Merle all my life and she was a friend. I'll never forget how she touched my heart when she sang "It is Well With My Soul" at my father's funeral. Merle was a Diva and an unmistakable talent. Rest in paradise cousin, it is well.

To my loving family. Aunty was a special lady and surely will be missed. My condolences go out to Uncle John, Leslie, Bryan, and Justin. It's a difficult task to let go of the person that has been there for you at every turn, the person that has wiped your noise and rear-ended when needed, provide that shoulder for you to cry on when you needed comforted, and an ear for you to bend when needed. "It will be little things that we remember—smiles, laughter—and although it is hard right now, the memories of these things will become tools to push away the pain. Those we love can never be more than a thought away; for as long as there’s a memory, they live on in our hearts." Love from the Patterson Family.
