To Mrs. Stukes & Family,
I met Former Delegate Stukes at City Hall when he was a Councilperson. Truly he was a man for The People. He would often call my colleague Desi McCoy or myself to request In Memoriams and Certificates of Recognition for someone he knew. His last request to me was one for the Maryland State Teachers Retirees 75th Anniversary. My heart has been heavy every since I received the call asking me did I know he had passed. I was in shock as I had just spoken with him on 9/18. He was a giant in spirit and in his willingness to help the people. He called me his sister and I my brother. Rest in Peace my brother. You will be missed. Prayers and much love to the family.

Always

Susie

In memory of Melvin Stukes, a life well and usefully lived, I offer as a reminder the Parable of Immortality by Henry Van Dyke:
I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean. LMLV
She is an object of beauty and strength,
and I stand and watch until at last she hangs
like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says,
' There she goes! '
Gone where?
Gone from my sight... that is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar
as she was when she left my side
and just as able to bear her load of living freight
to the place of destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her.
And just at the moment
when someone at my side says,
' There she goes! '
there are other eyes watching her coming...
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout...
' Here she comes! '
And that is dying.

My heart goes out to the family. Melvin was just a wonderful guy. He always cared about the community. When he was in office was wonderful to the community. Even when he was no longer in office he would still attend functions and speak when called upon. Melvin was a man of strong faith and family. He will be missed!
