I was very sorry to hear of Gene's passing. We went to dental school together and I remember him as a genuinely and consistently nice guy. A real class act. My condolences to his family.

The times spent with Gene at hunt tests, just talking about dogs and life in general, will always be good memories. I can't remember a time that he didn't greet me with a big smile and many times a hug as well. I considered Gene a good friend. I know his passing is a huge loss to Laura and the family, but it is also a tremendous loss to the retriever community. My heartfelt condolences.

Mrs Byrd,
I am so sorry to learn of your loss. Mr Gene was not only one of the founding members of the Keystone Retriever Club, but he was a beloved treasure as a member. He graciously helped so many of us with his patience, experience, and knowledge in training our dogs and in life. As a fellow "Chessie" enthusiast I benefited countless times from his honest, supportive advice to improve my handling of my dogs. He also gave me numerous insights about dogs in general and the sport of field dog training. I will be forever indebted to him.
May God bless you and your family as you deal with your grief.

My condolences, Mrs. Byrd. You know I had the pleasure of sitting with Dr. Byrd last year at our friend's birthday party. We talked and laughed for about 30 minutes. He told me how he would kid with my mother who was one of his patients, taught your son, and a friend. He asked how my brother was doing, who was also his patient. That 30 minutes will truly be a lasting memory that I will cherish.
Love You,
Ricky
