I met Ms. May in 1985 when me and my family moved on Leeds Street. She welcome in on the block and treated like I was a daughter. Teaching me how to bake. On holidays she would make a cake and a pie for my family until I learned how to do it myself. I love sitting and talking to her about when her and pops first met and how long they were together. When she retired from work, she stayed home and took care of family. And she loved putting her plants on the porch. She was always happy and would share the joy to everyone else. I never once seen her mad. On Sunday she would always attend church. When I became ill, she was always there for me and my children. She took care of me until I got my health back. When I moved back on Leeds Street and found she was ill and could no longer cook. The skills she taught me, I cook for her and pop every Sunday. When their birthday come in Dec 2 and 3. I would buy cake and ]ice cream and make dinner to celebrate with them both. You will truly be missed,

I loved Ms. Mae. She was our neighbor and my mom’s best friend. She was my first hairdresser (in her kitchen) and was an excellent cook! A gracious, loving and kind woman of God. I learned a lot from her and my mom as they served together at church for many, many years. As my sister said we were raised by a village and Ms. Mae is the last of them from Leeds St. to take her final rest. Love you Ms. Mae and you will be truly missed by many!

What a great lady, great cook, and Leeds St. neighbor! She was my Mom's best friend. They walked to work and church together for many years. Ms. Mae did my hair and my sister's hair for many years. Ms. Mae was there for me during the big moments of my life - high school graduation, college graduation, and wedding. Ms. Mae and Mr. Andrew were there for me and my siblings during the hard moments - illness and death of our parents, James and Myrtle Owens. I will NEVER forget their love and assistance during that period in our lives. I was raised by a village, and Ms. Mae was a big part of that village. Once I grew up and became a woman, Ms. Mae became my best friend too! I will forever love this lady, and I miss her already! Rest in Peace Great Lady!
